Best Wicker Placemats in India: Handmade Natural Table Decor

A beautifully set dining table can transform an everyday meal into a special experience. While plates, cutlery and glassware are essential, the right table accessories can add warmth, texture and personality to your dining space.

Wicker placemats are a simple way to bring natural texture to your table while protecting the surface underneath your dinnerware. Their woven appearance works beautifully with modern, minimal, rustic and contemporary Indian interiors.

At Kolus Home, we bring together functional home accessories and timeless design with our collection of handmade products made in India.

What Are Wicker Placemats?

Wicker placemats are woven table mats designed to be placed underneath plates, bowls and other dining essentials. They combine the practical purpose of a table mat with the decorative appeal of natural woven textures.

Their textured appearance can add depth to a dining table without making the setting feel overly formal.

Whether you're setting the table for everyday meals, a family gathering or a special dinner, woven placemats can instantly make the arrangement feel more considered.

Why Choose Wicker Placemats for Your Dining Table?

1. Add Natural Texture

Natural woven textures can make a dining table feel warmer and more inviting.

Pair wicker placemats with ceramic dinnerware, wooden serving boards, neutral table linens or glassware to create a relaxed table setting.

2. Create a Beautiful Table Setting

A placemat provides a defined space for each place setting.

Arrange your plate, cutlery and glassware over a wicker placemat to create a clean and organized dining arrangement.

The natural texture of the weave can also become a subtle focal point underneath simple dinnerware.

3. Suitable for Everyday Dining

Wicker placemats aren't only for special occasions.

They can be used for everyday breakfasts, lunches and dinners, helping you create a beautiful table setting without requiring complicated decoration.

4. Versatile Home Décor

Wicker placemats can also be used beyond the dining table.

Depending on their size and design, they can work as decorative bases underneath vases, centrepieces, candles or other tabletop accessories.

This makes them a versatile addition to your home décor collection.

Handmade Wicker Placemats Made in India

India has a long tradition of working with natural fibres and woven materials.

Handmade wicker placemats made in India bring this natural, handcrafted aesthetic to contemporary dining spaces. Small variations in woven texture can contribute to the character of handmade products.

At Kolus Home, we celebrate Indian-made home accessories by combining natural inspiration with designs suitable for modern homes.

How to Style Wicker Placemats

Styling wicker placemats doesn't need to be complicated.

For an Everyday Table

Pair natural wicker placemats with simple white or neutral dinnerware. Add clear glassware and minimal table accessories for a clean, relaxed look.

For a Festive Table

Combine woven placemats with richer table linens, decorative serveware and a simple centrepiece.

The natural texture of the placemats can balance more decorative elements on the table.

For a Minimal Table

Use wicker placemats with neutral ceramics and a simple centrepiece. Keep the rest of the table uncluttered and allow the woven texture to stand out.

For an Outdoor Meal

Woven placemats can help create a relaxed outdoor dining atmosphere for suitable settings. Pair them with simple dinnerware and natural decorative elements.

How to Choose the Right Wicker Placemats

Before choosing your placemats, consider the size of your dining table and dinnerware.

Consider the Shape

Round wicker placemats work naturally with round plates and can create a softer table setting.

Rectangular or other shaped placemats can provide a more structured appearance.

Consider the Colour

Natural tones are particularly versatile because they complement a wide range of dinnerware and table linens.

If your dining area already has several colours or patterns, a neutral woven placemat can help balance the overall look.

Consider the Weave

The weave is an important part of the visual appeal of a handmade placemat.

A tighter weave can create a more refined appearance, while a more open or textured weave can give your table a relaxed, rustic character.

Wicker Placemats vs. Traditional Table Mats

Traditional table mats are available in many materials and designs, but wicker placemats offer a distinctive natural texture.

Because they are woven, they can become part of the visual styling of the table rather than simply serving as a protective layer.

For homes that incorporate wood, natural fabrics, plants and earthy tones, woven table accessories can complement the existing décor particularly well.

How to Care for Wicker Placemats

Proper care depends on the specific material and construction of your placemats.

As a general approach:

• Remove crumbs and dust regularly.

• Follow the care instructions supplied with the product.

• Avoid excessive moisture unless the product is specifically designed to handle it.

• Allow suitable materials to dry completely if they become damp.

• Store them flat or appropriately according to their construction.

Always check the individual product's care instructions before cleaning.
